This is an intimate setting and will not have a PA system. Perhaps a small amp, but no mike. There is a stage. Listeners can sit on couches, drink tea, and eat vegan food.

Frank hopes that some of the NJ people will come by, especially someone from the NJPROGHOUSE to check it out.

Again, we apologize, it was pointed out to us, and we will now be serving strictly vegan bacon for those of you - vegans, vegetarians, omnivores, fruitivores, crabivores, or whoever feels like eating animal-free bacon!

"Emanating Love", Article by Matt Monarch

I like to think of all of our emotional experiences and feelings as either connected to 'positive' energy or 'negative' energy. Any energetic experience that seems like it would feel 'good' to most people, I think of as 'positive energy' and any type of energetic expericence that doesn't feel 'good', I term 'negative energy'. For example, feelings such as love, happiness, and joy, are 'positive energies' to me and feelings such as fear, sadness, and guilt are 'negative energy'.

It is scientifically proven that when we experience positive energies, health and healing flourish within the body, whereas when 'negative' energies such as fear or stress are experienced regularly, this can lead to damage in the body. For example, if a pregnant woman experiences negative energies, the growth of the fetus is said to be disrupted and even halts in some cases. You can imagine what can happen if a pregnant woman is consistently unhappy and feeling stressed on an ongoing basis. I feel that this is one of the key reasons it is so important for preganant women to be in a blissful, positive state as much as possible.

I feel that the root of all 'positive' energy is LOVE and the root of all 'negative' energy is FEAR. I believe that experiencing the feeling of LOVE not only helps people to find personal healing, but it also has the potential to heal others and impact the whole Universe TREMENDOUSLY.

Simply directing LOVE to another individual, plant, or animal will help to aid the healing process of that entity. This is also scientifically proven. As documented in the book "The Secret life of Plants", experiments have been conducted where plants are wired up to machines that indicate the energetic responses of the plants. When these plants are talked to and treated with love, they experience vibration and healing throughout their plant beings, which promotes their growth. However, if a human merely has the intention to harm the plant, the energy within that plant shifts and contracts. Another example of the impact that loving connections with those around us can have might be the shared joy that can be exchanged when a dog runs to a person for petting; the dog seems to be seeking to engage in the energy of LOVE.

I feel that one of the MOST IMPORTANT things to be aware of in terms of experiencing LOVE at any given moment, is that it aids and impacts the Universe and every single being within it. I sense that there is no consciousness as powerful as the collective human consciousness. Whatever you or I are feeling (Love or Fear) at any given moment, impacts this Universe. For example, someone may be experiencing pain from the loss of a loved one or something similar and the mother of that person in pain will often sense this discomfort and contact their child immediately to check on them; we are all connected.

There is a collective human consciousness, to which we are all connected, all the time, whether we are aware of it or not. Any of us can choose to 'tune into' that human consciousness right now and see what the majority of humans seem to be experiencing. For example, I remember a couple of years back when there was an online worldwide meditation called 'Fire the Grid', which became more popular than any meditation experience I've ever witnessed. Everyone was asked to meditate at a particular exact time, to send love and healing throughout our world and beyond. When myself and others tuned in to the meditation at this time, it felt very clear that a strong presence of LOVE was emanating globally.

If half or more of the humans on the planet at any given moment are experiencing love, then on a subtle level, more bliss can be experienced by everyone. On the flip-side, if half or more of the people at any given moment are feeling fear, it can be sensed by all. For example, you may wake up feeling perfectly healthy and there is nothing obvious for you to feel sad about, yet something just doesn't feel 'right'; the cause of this uneasiness might be your sensitivity to the overall collective consiousness at that moment. Another example could be the day when Michael Jackson passed over recently. Strong emotions of love and sadness were experienced by literally MILLIONS of people worldwide. This love and sadness could be felt in the air. I'm sure that even people who didn't have any attachment to Michael Jackson could feel this powerful energy.

LOVE can travel from California to India in a split second. If you send love and healing energy to a relative in India, for example, all the way from California, it can be experienced by the other instanteously, even if only at a subtle level. This is why praying for others can be so profoundly healing, as it usually involves sending LOVE to another being.

My belief is that emanating LOVE affects your own health, the healing and well-being of others, and the entire Universe. Emanating FEAR, on the other hand, does the exact opposite. With this is mind, why on Earth would it not be everyone's goal to emanate LOVE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! In fact, I feel that this is our primary purpose in life. I feel that there is nothing we can do right now that is more powerful for the Universe, human consciousness, and every living being than emanating LOVE. Why is it said that to be happiest in life, it is best to do what we LOVE? It's because we then experience LOVE so much more, which benefits us, everyone else around us, and the whole Universe. This flow of LOVE helps to create the most positive, smooth evolution possible for mankind.

It is understandable that someone may think emanating LOVE consistently on an daily basis is easier said than done. Sometimes we can feel emotionally down and that there is nothing we can do to get out of that rut. In my experience, meditation has the potential to lift a person out of this kind of rut, or at least improve the situation. Again, when you improve your energetic situation, not only does it improve your health, it also affects the ENTIRE UNIVERSE.

Meditation is awareness: giving your undivided and UNWAIVERING attention to something. Simply meditating or being aware of what you are experiencing can immediately improve any 'negative' energetic situation. LOVE is a massively healing power. If you are in emotional pain, you can look at that pain with awareness (love) and begin to heal it. My personal meditation technique is to search my entire energetic structure for any 'negative' energy. If I discover such an energy, I focus on that pain with unwaivering attention, and I notice that the negative feeling starts to heal and dissipates. I've gone through some intense bouts of meditation where all 'negative' emotional pains completely vanished. All that was left was absolute bliss and LOVE, emanating from my being out into the Universe.

In conclusion, I feel that LOVE heals ourselves, other beings, and the entire Universe. It seems silly then, to me, to not seek out LOVE as a purpose and driving force in life.

I LOVE my wife, I LOVE my family, I LOVE the trees, I LOVE the Universe... AND...

I LOVE YOU!!! :-)

Bad habits can age you by 12 years, study suggests

CHICAGO – Four common bad habits combined — smoking, drinking too much, inactivity and poor diet — can age you by 12 years, sobering new research suggests.

The findings are from a study that tracked nearly 5,000 British adults for 20 years, and they highlight yet another reason to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Overall, 314 people studied had all four unhealthy behaviors. Among them, 91 died during the study, or 29 percent. Among the 387 healthiest people with none of the four habits, only 32 died, or about 8 percent.

The risky behaviors were: smoking tobacco; downing more than three alcoholic drinks per day for men and more than two daily for women; getting less than two hours of physical activity per week; and eating fruits and vegetables fewer than three times daily.

These habits combined substantially increased the risk of death and made people who engaged in them seem 12 years older than people in the healthiest group, said lead researcher Elisabeth Kvaavik of the University of Oslo.

The study appears in Monday's Archives of Internal Medicine.

The healthiest group included never-smokers and those who had quit; teetotalers, women who had fewer than two drinks daily and men who had fewer than three; those who got at least two hours of physical activity weekly; and those who ate fruits and vegetables at least three times daily.

"You don't need to be extreme" to be in the healthy category, Kvaavik said. "These behaviors add up, so together it's quite good. It should be possible for most people to manage to do it."

For example, one carrot, one apple and a glass of orange juice would suffice for the fruit and vegetable cutoffs in the study, Kvaavik said, noting that the amounts are pretty modest and less strict than many guidelines.

The U.S. government generally recommends at least 4 cups of fruits or vegetables daily for adults, depending on age and activity level; and about 2 1/2 hours of exercise weekly.

Study participants were 4,886 British adults aged 18 and older, or 44 years old on average. They were randomly selected from participants in a separate nationwide British health survey. Study subjects were asked about various lifestyle habits only once, a potential limitation, but Kvaavik said those habits tend to be fairly stable in adulthood.

Death certificates were checked for the next 20 years. The most common causes of death included heart disease and cancer, both related to unhealthy lifestyles.

Kvaavik said her results are applicable to other westernized nations including the United States.

June Stevens, a University of North Carolina public health researcher, said the results are in line with previous studies that examined the combined effects of health-related habits on longevity.

The findings don't mean that everyone who maintains a healthy lifestyle will live longer than those who don't, but it will increase the odds, Stevens said.

The choice of adding full-fat or skimmed milk to tea may influence the antioxidant capacity of the beverage, says new research from the UK which may have public health implications.

According to findings published in Nutrition Research, addition of milk of any kind reduced the antioxidant potential of black tea by between 7 and 25 per cent than unmilked tea.

However, addition of skimmed milk decreased the total antioxidant capacity of black tea much more than whole or semi-skimmed milk, report Lisa Ryan and Sébastien Petit from the Functional Food Center at Oxford Brookes University.

The reduction in the antioxidant activity of tea, as measured by the FRAP assay, was reported to be a linked to the levels of theaflavins and thearubigins that will affect the total antioxidant capacity of black tea.

“Although the addition of milk may not inhibit the catechin or quercetin concentrations, it may affect other antioxidant components such as the theaflavins and thearubigins that will affect the total antioxidant capacity of black tea,” wrote Ryan and Petit.

Green versus black

The majority of science on tea has looked at green tea, with benefits reported for reducing the risk of Alzheimer's and certain cancers, improving cardiovascular and oral health, as well as aiding in weight management.

Green tea contains between 30 and 40 per cent of water-extractable polyphenols, while black tea (green tea that has been oxidized by fermentation) contains between 3 and 10 per cent. Considering that the British consume between three and four cups of black tea a day, often with milk (and the rest of the world averages between one and two cups a day), the findings could have public health implications, said the Oxford-based researchers.

“From a public health perspective, tea is rich in antioxidants and may be an important contributor to an individual's overall antioxidant status,” they wrote.

Contrasting science

Previous studies have reported somewhat contradictory data. A study from 2007 by German scientists at the Charite Hospital in Berlin found that drinking tea with milk may block the cardiovascular benefits of the catechins.

Writing in the European Heart Journal (2007, Vol. 28, pp. 219-223), the researchers found that while tea increased the artery's ability to relax and expand to accommodate increased blood flow compared to water, this effect was blocked when milk was added to the beverage.

The new research depends our understanding of the potential health benefits of the beverage may be related to the fat content of the milks used, and that not all milk affects the bioavailability of tea compounds equally.

Ryan and Petit analysed the antioxidant capacity of five brands of black with different volumes of whole milk, semiskimmed, and skimmed milk.

Their results showed that adding of 10, 15, and 20 mL of whole, semiskimmed, and skimmed cow’s milk decreased the total antioxidant capacity, but that skimmed milk decreased it the most.

“We accept the hypothesis that different volumes of bovine milk and milk of varying fat content affect the total antioxidant capacity of tea,” wrote Ryan and Petit.

“The degree to which the addition of milk reduces the antioxidant capacity of black tea depends on the amount added and the fat content of the milk,” they added.

And what about coffee?

A recent study by food giant Nestlé reported that adding milk to instant coffee had no effect on the uptake of coffee’s antioxidants, including caffeic acid, ferulic acid, and isoferulic acid.

According to findings of a study with nine people published in The Journal of Nutrition, the uptake of caffeic and ferulic acids was lower, however, when coffee was made with non-dairy creamer and sugar.

We had a great show here on Friday night. Mike Sbarra wowed us with his extensive repertoire and got to hone his skills for his friends and family who were a fun, raucous group. His parents were sweet and his grandmother was a doll who said she really had a fun, relaxing time here.
Then, I don't know if it was Mike's little brother or some other relation, but he got on stage and was a rocker at such a young age! His guitar skills were impressive.

Man, Shaun White is cool. I have always been the type to not go with the hype (and to rhyme) and even though I've been a fan of his for a long time, I didn't want to believe the cool hype. Particularly those who are "too cool for school". But damn, he's incredible and cool and really talented. Hard to dispute that after last night's halfpipe. The fact that he did his badass trick (the 1290?) at the very end when he didn't even have to is just freaking cool. Go Shaun!
